Short summary: Android 4.4 KitKat has been optimized by Google for smartphones hardware weak with just 512 MB of RAM. However, Samsung claims, 1 GB on the Galaxy S3 is not enough to make KitKat run properly on it. This can only be because TouchWiz UX Nature is an overloaded system that KitKat significantly slow down. If it is not, then only an excuse to cover up Samsung's displeasure.
The Android community has accepted not stand, and so there are only a few days after Samsung's opinion first solutions in the form of a still unstable ROMs, which brings official KitKat on the Galaxy S3. It is based on the firmware for the Galaxy Note 2 (XXUFND3).
I repeat: This software is an ongoing project and still plagued by numerous bugs, even if basic functions according to user details; are already usable (for example, camera, telephone and SMS). Of course, this requires ROM tinkering and should be enjoyed for those users with caution and a good dose of experimentation. About feedback from users and small donations, the developers are happy though.
The more adventurous among you can here in the appropriate thread of XDA-Developers participate and download the firmware.
